Philly Cupcake: Where Dreams DO Come True!

One of the hardest things about growing up is when all of your friends move away.  One of the GREATEST things about growing up is having an excuse to eat lots of cupcakes in new cities because your friends have moved away.

As I'm starting to plan this summer's trip to Philly to see the lovely and delightful Kelly, I can't help but reminisce about my trip last summer.  Since I had never been to Philadelphia before (I know ... I'm a bad East Coast gal), we hit the rounds of typical tourist things - Benjamin Franklin's house, The Magic Gardens, the Liberty Bell, etc.

However, as anyone who knows either one of us can surmise, there was also a lot of eating.  And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT.  Between the cheeseburgers, sticky buns, and PBR, I'm surprised that I made it home in one piece!

Before I journeyed south, Kelly asked me how many cupcake places were "too many," to which I responded, "There are never enough."

She decided to take me to Philly Cupcake, and I was not disappointed.  In fact, as the photo below will indicate, I was SO FREAKING EXCITED.

Kells had a bit of a disappointment with her cupcake, but mine was awesome.  I don't remember what it was, but it had iridescent sprinkles and purple frosting.  It was amazing.  (I perused their menu to see if I could jolt my memory, but apparently, I had a seasonal flavor!  I guess I'll just have to rediscover it this summer...)

I also flirted with the guy working at the cupcake store and got a free cupcake.  You know, as one does.

PDX, I love your sweet treats.

Sometimes, I feel like a very lucky lady. This usually involves people bringing me cupcakes unannounced, but especially when said treats travel across the country to find their way into my belly.

Because I know a lot of people who travel, I am a frequent recipient of delicious cupcakes that have flown on planes. Most recently, I had the AWESOME treat of eating mini-cupcakes from Cupcake Jones, a bakery in Portland, Oregon.

I only have a bad picture that I hastily took in my kitchen, but that won't stop me from praising these delicious creations. While all of the cupcakes I had were delightful, my favorite was Chocolate Chip Cookie, pictured here, thanks to their delightful website. Each of these flavors were balanced well, all with fantastic frosting. I hate buttercream when it feels like I am eating lard, but this was the real deal. I will definitely be finding ways to head to PDX to try each and every flavor.

Sidenote - For those of you keeping track at home, I ate:
Velvet Painting
What's up Doc?
Chocolate Chip Cookie
Peanut Butter Cup
Lemoncello
PB & J

Cupcake o'clock (or Cupcake Hour) is the best time of day. Why is that? Because I invented it!

No, but seriously, what is a better pick-me-up than a cupcake? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I even put it in urban dictionary. (Their grammatical error, not mine. Jerks.)

I'm a spoiled little sister.

For those who think that I may have just recently fallen in love with cupcakes with this new fad that has appeared over the past year or two, please know that you are horribly incorrect.

As an unashamed bratty little sister, I have had the privilege of being spoiled rotten for the past few decades by my wonderful siblings. A major perk of this has been partaking in my sister's spectacular culinary skills.

Example: Buttermilk cupcakes (full of bacon chunks) with maple syrup/bacon frosting.

Goodness gracious, these were spectacular. You should all be jealous that you don't have my sister.

Wilkommen!

Dear friends, family, and other lovers of cupcakes,

As you all know, I am obsessed with cupcakes. Cupcakes are the most perfect creation of all time, and I firmly believe that they should be consumed and enjoyed by everyone. That said, I have decided to take my love to the next level.

Some of my New Year's resolutions were to have more fun, travel, and spend time with old friends. What is the best way to combine all of these things in a delicious way? Oh yes, that's right. I will be traveling to visit friends AND EAT CUPCAKES!

Sounds crazy? Probably is.

Until my bank account will allow me to travel out of this delicious city, I will be writing about cupcakes I know and love here in Boston/Cambridge/Newton. Excited? You should be.

With lots of sugary kisses,
k
